The original settlers are buried in the graveyard on the property and also laid to rest there is the author given credit for penning the "Ballad of Tom Dooley". The events that inspired the song occurred in this community. Daniel Boone chose to build four homes and spend the major portion of his adult life a few miles down the creek on th Yadkin River. He traveled through this property many times on his explorations westward.
