This pristine, one of a kind waterfowl recreation property is being offered for sale. Originally developed as a farm grist mill in the early 1800's, this property was converted to one of the finest bird sanctuaries in the southeastern United States. There are 42 acres planted in corn with an additional 26 acres of cropland not currently in cultivation. There are two duck impoundments totaling 10 acres planted in corm with an additional 6 acre impoundment not planted this year. Many miles of boat canals meander throughout hundreds of acres of flat water and lead to dozens of large open duck holes on the main mill pond. Large stands of mature pine, hardwood, and cypress make perfect habitats for deer and turkey. A rookery along the edge of the mill pond is home to thousands of migratory birds such as egrets, heron, ibis, spoonbills, and many more.
For nearly 30 years, one corporation used this property as their private retreat where several govenors and other dignitaries were entertained on private hunts. The corporate game manager is still available to show and explain the workings of this property. The hunting on this property has been compared to the best that Lake Mattamuskeet in NC or Stuttgart in AR have to offer. For the non hunter, it is simply an amazing, very private sanctuary. There is a repairable 1800's home. This property has no conservation easements in place and would possibly qualify for the National Historic Registry. |
